Cotnari Vineyard

The Cotnari Vineyard is renowned for its scenic beauty and unique grape varieties. Known for its traditional dessert wines, Cotnari’s reputation extends internationally. The Grasa de Cotnari grape, native to this vineyard, produces wines celebrated for their sweetness and fruity flavors. Another notable grape, Francusa, yields elegant sweet wines. In 1900, the book "Romania," published in London, praised Cotnari wines, comparing them favorably to Tokaj and Malaga.

The vineyard centers include Cotnari, Harlau, Cucuteni, and Frumusica, known for their plateaus, terraces, and rich soils. Cotnari’s unique climate, situated on southern slopes up to 350 meters, provides optimal conditions with chernozem and calcareous soils. Although cooler, the long sunny autumns help grapes achieve high sugar levels, producing wines of exceptional quality.

Cotnari S.A. cultivates around 1,400 hectares with local varieties like Grasa de Cotnari, Feteasca Alba, Tamaioasa Romaneasca, and Francusa. Casa de Vinuri Cotnari, founded in 2007, focuses on premium wines, introducing new traditional varieties like Feteasca Neagra and Busuioaca de Bohotin with modern practices, ensuring quality with controlled yields.
